Karol Mazur (Owner of Timberheim.de): I founded the company FilJan, which specializes in building wooden houses, on September 24, 2014. The name is derived from the names of my sons, Filip and Jan, who I am very proud and happy to be the father of. The company is based in Stara Kiszewa, in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland, in the heart of the Kashubian region. My adventure in the construction and wood industry began back in elementary school – over 30 years ago. In the last decade before founding FilJan, I was involved in the construction of wooden houses. In a way, I work in an industry that fulfills dreams – of having a place on Earth and your own home. That’s what motivates me the most: fulfilling people's dreams of owning a home, a place where they will spend their time on this Earth. This drives me to work and continuously develop.

D.B.: Please summarize these 10 years of your work: How large is your company today? How many employees do you have? How many contracts will be signed by the end of 2024?

K.M.: FilJan recently celebrated 10 years on the Polish market. It was a time of reflection for me. I made myself and my employees aware that in this time we have completed over 600 projects. That’s over 600 families who trusted us and, thanks to us, have realized their dreams of owning a home. Today, I employ over 100 people in Poland in various positions. It is a highly qualified and experienced team that ensures a high standard of our services. I can confidently say that we will close this year with over one hundred signed contracts for wooden houses. However, for the next year, I have set myself a very ambitious goal. Considering both companies – FilJan and Timberheim – I would like to build more than 150 houses in 2025. I know this is a high bar, but I firmly believe that we will reach this goal. I believe in myself and my employees. We have all the resources and strength in our hands to celebrate such a success by the end of next year.

Daniel Borkowski (Project Manager): Timberheim.de is the sister company of FilJan Wooden Houses, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Do you remember your beginnings in this industry? How did you come up with the idea to build wooden houses and connect your professional career with this industry?

D.B.: Where did the idea come from to establish a sales structure for wooden houses outside of Poland? What is the Timberheim.de project meant to be? What is the goal for the coming years?

K.M.: The idea of expanding our services and products to foreign markets came up in 2018. Even then, I knew that Timberheim.de would be established, and that I wanted to start the expansion on the German market. This was mainly due to the great interest of German customers in my products and services. In recent years, we have been able to realize several dozen projects in Germany. Unfortunately, the plans for Timberheim.de were slowed down by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, it is time to resume this project and firmly establish ourselves in the German market. My goal for Timberheim.de is to close the year 2025 with at least 30 signed contracts. I would consider that a great success – and anything beyond that as the fulfillment of a dream. The Timberheim.de project is meant to be something special. The overall and fundamental goal is to realize the customer's dream of their own home. We want to be a brand that focuses on the high quality of its materials and services, offering them at a very attractive and competitive price.

D.B.: What sets the services and products of Timberheim.de apart from the competition? How do you plan to win the hearts of German customers?

K.M.: As already mentioned, a great deal of construction and sales experience defines me and my projects. As a company, we are able to meet the expectations of every customer. We focus on the highest quality at a price that matches the real possibilities of our customers. We work with modern technologies, have a professional machinery park, and a qualified team. Our salespeople, designers, and production workers are top experts. We also value German manufacturers. Many of the components of our houses come from German companies. I believe all of these arguments will convince our future German customers to choose to collaborate with us.

D.B.: The Kashubian culture, from which you come, is a kind of heritage. What does it mean for you to be Kashubian? Are the black and yellow colors of the Kashubian flag a symbol full of pride? Did you include them in the Timberheim.de logo because of this?

K.M.: Yes. For both me and the people around me, belonging and regional pride are important. I think it is extremely important to be proud of one's origins. As for the logo, I must admit that the colors (black and yellow) are a clear reference to the Kashubian colors. I have always believed that one should know where they come from, where they are, and where they are going. Being proud to be Kashubian, Polish, and European is the foundation of this belief.

D.B.: Work is an important part of our lives, but only a part of it. What are your private interests? What excites you outside of work?

K.M.: Every person should have passions and hobbies. These are life areas that have a huge impact on personal development. As for me, I am most fascinated by traveling at the moment. It allows me to develop further, expand my knowledge, and gain new experiences. Of course, there is also a place in my heart for sports – especially motorsport or team sports. However, it’s not as important what passion one is drawn to. What matters is finding space and time in life to do things that bring a smile to your face and give you inner peace.
